Bully 2 will not be released, despite it being green lit and under development for 18 months, a source has told Video Games Chronicles.
According to information shared with VGC, co-founder of Rockstar; Dan Houser and a small team of his most trusted developers had a skeletal script written as early as 2008, only two years after the release of the first title.
The game was to continue to follow Jimmy’s story with appearances from characters from the first game, with the story kicking off in Jimmy’s step-father’s home in the summer at the endow the school year.
The plan, according to the article, was to develop that game after the release of Red Dead Redemption and the studio responsible, Rockstar New England, had sunk considerable time in the development. A source confirmed it was led by the art team who were responsible for the first game.
In that time there was a playable version of Bully 2, a “very small slice” that was built on the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) which is used for GTA and Red Dead Redemption.
For now Bully 2 is dead in the water, but that’s not to suggest that we could see it a little later down the line. Maybe it’s a title for the new generation of consoles. Rockstar are known for being on of the first to deliver on new SKUs, so we’ll be keeping an eye.
Rockstar has, as they always do, refused to comment.
