Warner Bros. Interactive (WBI) known for the LEGO titles and, more recently, Hitman has been put up for sale, reports CNBC.
Parent company, AT&T is looking to sell the company as part of a company-wide strategy to move out of the gaming space and expects to get a price of “about $4b USD”. The company is currently in debt to the tune of $165bn USD (£131bn GBP). It originally acquired WBI in 2018 for a whopping $109bn USD deal.
A lot of the WBI titles include intellectual property (IP) tie-ins, such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Lego Movie, Batman, Mad Max and the LEGO movies to name a few.
Take-Two, Electronic Arts, and Activision Blizzard are some of the companies that have shown an interest according to the report. However the terms of the sale are still unclear with reports claiming that AT&T may be looking for a “commercial licensing agreement where AT&T can continue to get revenue from its IP” like Harry Potter – which could impact any potential deal.
