Black Lives Matter Indie Games Bundle Exceeds $55,000

by Tamer Asfahani

Indie game bundle, promoting the Black Lives Matter movement, has raised over $55,000 USD two days after launch.

The bundle, hosted on itch.io and available until 17 June, features games from 20 indie developers standing together to oppose police brutality and white supremacy”, after global unrest erupted as a result of the brutal murder of George Floyd by police last week.

The value of the package would normally cost around $150 USD, but a two tier system allows people to donate $20 USD giving access to 11 games, or $40 USD for the whole bundle.

“By purchasing this bundle you are contributing to the fight against police brutality and providing necessary funding to two amazing organisations that are working to make the world a better place,” say its organisers of the bundle.

And there’s more yet, with over 750 developers looking to contribute to a new bundle currently being created by itch.io’s founder to raise money for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Community Bail Fund. This will be a pay-what-you-want offer, however it’s been delayed for fear of overwhelming the website due to the number of games being offered. This will go live as soon as the website’s backend management system has been optimised.
