PlayStation Future of Gaming event June 11

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Future of Gaming event will now take place on June 11 and will start at 2100hrs BST.

It was initially due to be broadcast on the 4 July, but was delayed post the killing of George Floyd reigniting protests across the world. Out of respect for the movement and cause, Sony decided it was important “to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time.”
It also comes after the global Covid-19 pandemic has played havoc with scheduled events, compounding problems across with similar, much anticipated announcement.

The event will pre-recorded and “be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second,” said Sid Shuman, senior director for SIE Content Communications.

“This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home,” said Shuman

Although the presentation will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second, Shuman has confirmed that most of the trailers that will go up on social media and YouTube after the event will be in 4K.

The event is expected to showcase PS5 exclusive games. The announcements made so far have focused more on the technical specifications and hardware of the new console rather than any first-party exclusive titles. Sony president and CEO Jim Ryan has promised the event will give fans a “first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches” promising that Sony’s development studios “have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.”

The event will be streamed via the PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels. Post event, Ryan has said that there will be “much more to share” and that the event was only “part of our series of PS5 updates” expected to come over the coming weeks.
