Private Division Signs Up Three New Developers

by Steve Boxer

Private Division has signed three new agreements to publish games made by the developers Moon Studios, League of Geeks and Roll7.

The publisher – essentially the mid-sized-indie-publishing arm of Take-Two Interactive – has only been around since 2017, but has already created a favourable impression among gamers through publishing the like of The Outer Worlds, the Kerbal Space Program games and Ancestors. Michael Worosz, executive vice president and head of Private Division, said: “Our partnerships with Moon Studios, League of Geeks, and Roll7 continue to enhance Private Division’s roster with more of the game industry’s best creative talent from around the world.”

Perhaps the most impressive of those partnerships is with the BAFTA-winning Moon Studios, which developed the much-loved Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Moon Studios will develop a new action-RPG for Private Division. Moon Studio’s co-founders Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol said: “Developing the Ori series over the last decade has been a fantastic experience for our team, and we’re thrilled to now be aiming our sights even higher with a new action RPG. We attribute our success to the ‘iterative polish’ process we use at Moon Studios, and we’re continuing that style of development to create a new game that rises above anything we’ve created thus far.”

Melbourne-based League of Geeks, best known for the digital board game Armello, is currently remaining coy about what it will contribute to Private Division’s roster, saying only that it will be an “ambitious” new intellectual property. Blake Mizzi, co-founder and director at League of Geeks, said: “It’s equally important for us to build games with heart that can rally and foster a dedicated community of players, as it is to develop games that are critical, cultural, and commercial successes. This partnership provides the opportunity for us to grow our studio alongside our ambitions to create something beyond anything we’ve developed before.”

London-based Roll7, which also won a BAFTA for its skate game OlliOlli, is, according to a spokesperson, “Working with Private Division on the next jump forward in their mission to create awesome, flow state games.” John Ribbins, chief creative officer at Roll7, said: “Our titles resonate with players because we strive for super solid game feel, highly refined gameplay, and simple but highly masterable mechanics. We’re really excited to be working with Private Division on our next title and we can’t wait for players to get their hands on it. We’re raising the bar on our creativity and the scope of our ambition to make this next project our best thing yet.”

None of the newly announced games is expected to launch: “Until Take-Two’s fiscal year 2022.” We’ll bring you more news about them when any emerges.

The clearly show hires a secure of writers, who commonly
work in parallel: the first writer will work on the first episode, the 2nd on the second episode, and many others.
