Sega’s Alex Kidd Original Game Remade

by Tamer Asfahani

Merge Games and developer Jankenteam have revived the old school Sega classic, Alex Kidd with the latest title based on the original game.

The original, which was released in 1986 on the Sega Master System was one of Sega’s most successful franchises and one of the time’s most loved platformers. Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX has enhanced everything from audio to gameplay for the release. And all of the original levels will also be included, as well as DX specific special levels that “expand the lore of Alex Kidd,” and introduce new enemies.

Graphically, the game looks as you’d expect, but the true heart of the original title is still very much still visible. The controls have also been updated to be more intuitive for today’s gaming pads and there have been new game modes added, such as Rush mode which allows you to take on each of the game’s bosses one after the other. And if the music brings back nostalgia, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the music has been totally revamped and remastered too, as well as re-imagined in some cases, anchoring the game in its retro past.
Finally, in the same way as you could in the Monkey Island remakes, you can also toggle between the original graphics and sounds in-game. If you fancy a trip down memory lane, then why not play using the old graphics and sounds. Bored and want to check out the new sound and graphics, then toggle back.

The game is due to be released in the first quarter of 2021 and should be available on PC, PS4, Switch and XBOX.
